What a Handyman Job Costs
Learn what factors influence residential repair and remodeling estimates, and how our block service discounts save you money.
The Key Cost Drivers Behind Every Residential Project
Every home and repair has its own personality. Rather than arbitrary pricing, your estimate is calculated based on clear, realistic project factors:
1. Job Size in Hours
The total time needed for prep, execution, drying/curing cycles (such as joint compound coats), and thorough cleanup. Bundling multiple items into a single visit is always the most economical approach.
2. Materials & Hardware
Whether standard drywall, specialized moisture-resistant board, solid cedar vs pressure-treated lumber, specialized primer, fasteners, or custom-milled trim profiles.
3. Older-Home Nuances (Plaster)
Older Madison neighborhoods often have plaster and wood lath walls. Patching plaster requires different masonry compounds, conditioning coats, and anchoring techniques compared to standard 1/2" drywall.
4. Repair vs. Full Replace
Can a rotted door frame or warped deck step be spliced with sound lumber, or is structural replacement required for long-term safety? We always recommend the honest, long-lasting path.
5. Access & Protection
High stairwell ceilings, tight crawl spaces, or rooms requiring extensive dust containment and furniture masking factor into job preparation time.
6. Estimate by Photo
Most jobs can be estimated over the phone or by email with photos. A clear close-up and a wider shot showing context lets us evaluate scope immediately without scheduling delays.
